A few things in the world of hypnotherapy that have caught our eyes this week, which you might find of interest…

Conception after 5 miscarriages

We enjoyed reading this article in Best, as it covered the heartening tale of Leah Elliot finally giving birth of her gorgeous son Joseph, after a devastating tale of miscarriages.

In the article, Leah tells in her own words how the power of hypnotherapy gave her the chance to fully relax and allow the process of fertility to work its wonders in her system.

A lovely tale with heart-tugging pictures of little Joseph.

Creative Changes

Another great article espousing the wonders of hypnotherapy, was shared with us recently from the state of Washington.

In the Sequim Gazette, hypnotherapist Pat Coughlin Mawson promotes the benefits of hypnotherapy in rewiring and drawing upon the power of the subconscious mind.

In amongst all the normal chat about weight loss, smoking cessation, surgery pain, and so on, we were delighted to see some of Pat’s thoughts that we thoroughly agree on, such as the simplified belief of “nothing more than relaxation and repetition” and her noble promise that “she doesn’t put her own words in clients’ mouths”.

Couldn’t agree more, Pat! 🙂

A few things in the world of hypnotherapy that have caught our eyes this week, which you might find of interest…

Hypnotherapy Comes Strictly

We were interested to see that Mark Wright – one of the dancers on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing show – is going to use hypnotherapy to combat the anxiety attacks he’s been having on the show.

Mark has spoken about a lot of the feelings – “I feel sick all week with nerves, then I see my family in the audience and all the emotions come out.” – that most sufferers are only too aware of.

200kgs Is A Massive Drop

Much is often made of the weight loss benefits that can be gained from hypnotherapy sessions.

However, this story from Australia really gobsmacked us.  Where 44 year old Jordan Tirekidis lost an incredible 200kgs without undergoing any surgery.  A massive life changing event.

The Way To Change

On the mental and emotional side of things, we were very pleased to read this article with Mary Paleologo, where she takes head on, the usual negative connotations that some people, and especially the media, can take when hearing the word ‘hypnotherapy’.

The article then goes on to explain the many benefits that can be gained from the practice, and the way in which people’s lives and internal thinking can be radically shifted.

Using Hypnosis as a tool for diagnosis

Really enjoyed this article in the New Indian Express.

The article lists the many things that hypnosis can be used to treat, it also answers a number of frequently asked questions, and it nicely confirms that hypnosis is “can be referred to as a tool that not only is simple in nature, but also natural as there are no medications of chemicals injected to initiate the process.”

Really liked that summation.

Not Just a Parlour Trick Anymore

Short read in the Times Free Press where the author lists the many areas and benefits that hypnotherapy can attend to.

It also covers a few scientific reports “including ones done by the University of Florida and the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, showed the pregnant women who used hypnosis had shorter and easier labor, needed less pain medication and suffered lower incidents of post-partum depression.”

If only all employers did likewise

Thoroughly delighted to read this article in Jersey Isle News, detailing how State Street employees in The Channel Islands enjoyed something in September that surely EVERY employee in the world would benefit from.

Get this – a Wellness Month – “a month long programme of events, talks and activities focusing on physical and mental wellbeing.”

One can only imagine the exponential benefits that individuals, groups of employees, and the world as a whole could feel if this kind of activity was copied ever wider.

Subconscious mind can resolve a list of ailments

Just reading the phrase – “Hypnosis is a reality. It is not something new and was used by the Egyptians 3,000 years ago” – made us smile at the interview with two hypnotherapists in the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Any interview or article or speech where the validity, history and wonders of hypnotherapy can be preached to the general public is a great thing.

Good on you girls!

Happiness is all in the mind

We found this interview in the Belfast Telegraph very interesting.

Stephanie Bell interviews Joseph Pond and discovers how the hypnotherapist from Arizona is working wonders on the people of Northern Ireland.

Joseph also covers the important area of regulation to provide a better status to the world of hypnotherapy.

Hypnobirthing

And lastly – an interesting piece in SourceWire, where Maggie Howell discusses the ins and outs of the hot topic of hypnobirthing.

5 Science-backed Health Benefits of Hypnosis

Personal experience and results of hypnosis is the best indicator on an individual basis of course.  However, it’s always good to learn of studies and reports carried out on a much wider scale by the scientific community.

This excellent article from the Huffington Post goes into detail of the following 5 benefits of hypnosis:

  1. Hypnosis can help improve deep sleep
  2. Hypnosis can ease the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome
  3. Hypnosis can quell hot flashes
  4. Hypnosis can ease pain
  5. Hypnosis can calm nerves

Spring clean your mind with help from hypnotherapy

This article from the Gloucestershire Echo nicely covers how instead of using hypnotherapy to laser focus on a particular problem or issue in life (phobia, obstacle, trauma, etc.), it can be used as a general “cleaning” tool.

Taking your mind – with all of its noise, voices, fears, doubts, and mess – and giving it a thorough clean out, can help enormously in clearing the decks to deal with your present and your future.

Hypnotherapy helped me exercise

Newspapers and magazines seem to have an endlessly relentless supply of celebrity news and updates, and hearing how hypnotherapy can be used in these circles can be interesting and insightful.

However, the stories are usually of weight loss being targeted, or removing a fear of public speaking in their busy Hollywood lives.

It was therefore nice to read of a story where hypnosis and hypnotherapy were actually used to help someone with the challenge of exercising.

This Xpose Entertainment piece covers the challenge and success encountered by actress Olivia Munn.

A few things in the world of hypnotherapy that have caught our eyes this week, which you might find of interest…

Jennifer Aniston turns to hypnotherapy again

Celebrity actress is no stranger to the powers and benefits of hypnotherapy.

Coming face-to-face with her ex Brad Pitt at the impending wedding of George Clooney, has allegedly seen the star becoming more and more anxious about how she’ll cope with the meeting since their divorce.

And this fear has led her to seek a Confidence Coach, and to use hypnotherapy to boost her self-esteem.

Northern Ireland’s only Natal Hypnotherapy Practitioner

We came across this fascinating article on Mary McCallan.

Mary is a midwife at Altnagelvin Hospital, and has been using her Pregnancy Relaxation Class to bring comfort and calm to many grateful mothers.

She became Ireland’s first fully qualified practitioner; all starting from trying it out herself with her own child.

Well done to Mary for the service she’s providing!

Hypnosis Improved Sleep

Sleep is the most underrated, and yet most critical, component of our health and well being.

It’s a subject of much fascination and tweaks and changes to heighten and improve.

It’s been known for a long time now that hypnosis can greatly improve the quality of this health giving elixir, and now more and more scientific evidence is backing this up.

The journal Sleep has recently published medical research data, from a team in the States led by a top Swiss biopsychologist, which has shown the benefits of SWS (slow wave sleep) induced by hypnosis.

Happy dreams!

A few things in the world of hypnotherapy that have caught our eyes this week, which you might find of interest…

New Hypnotherapy Book Released

A new book released at the end of May caught the eye of many involved in hypnotherapy.

The book – “The Chi of Change” – by British hypnotherapist Peter Field, has received many positive reviews for people to understand the power of hypnotherapy in overcoming many of life’s challenges and frustrations.

All of our own clients and readers will be very well aware of how the incredible power of the subconscious mind can be tapped into.

Several expert reviewers have already praised the book as being impressive, so it sounds like one to add to the bookcase.

Shy Girl to Confident Model

The Daily Mail newspaper recently carried an encouraging story of how a young woman was crippled with high levels of fear and anxiety, causing her to be almost constantly housebound, and yet through the use of hypnosis has now transformed into a confident young woman.

Not only has she thrown off the shackles of fearing to go outside and be in public, but she’s been able to travel to the other extreme, and actually become brave enough to become a successful lingerie model!

Getting Over a Breakup

Can’t stop thinking about them.  Grieving over the loss of the relationship.  Going over and over in your mind about the “what ifs”.

The pain and emotion of a relationship breakup is a very real incarnation of pain and challenge that all people have to feel at some point in their lives.

This article in The Bustle offers up the hope of hypnotherapy being able to lessen the pain, and to actually help the client through the whole grieving process in a very empowering and positive fashion.

Not a case of numbing or ignoring the very real pain, but actually using tools and processes to delve inside the situation and work through it openly, honestly and comfortably.

A few things in the world of hypnotherapy that have caught our eyes this week, which you might find of interest…

World No Tobacco Day

The end of this month (31st May) sees the admirable “World No Tobacco” Day being celebrated.  A massive global initiative to help people give up the dreaded cigarettes.

The WHO (World Health Organisation) is behind the campaign.

The organisation has released reports showing that smoking is the single biggest preventable cause of death in the world today – taking nearly 6,000,000 lives every year!

And of course hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool to help you quit smoking, so this global day might be the best day to piggy-back and save your own health.

Procrastination

The famous celebrity figure of UK comediennes – Jennifer Saunders – has recently revealed that she has been using hypnotherapy to overcome the dreaded obstacle of procrastination in her life.

Many people easily link addictions – like smoking and over-eating – to being the obvious perils that hypnotherapy can help with, but less life threatening and equally life debilitating issues like procrastination, or phobias, or insecurity can also be dealt with.

It’s great to see such a well known face admit to her issues and share her experience of using hypnotherapy to assist her.

Many people have a tendency to breathe faster than normal when they are anxious. Sometimes this can make you feel a little dizzy, which makes you more anxious and you breathe even faster, which can make you more anxious, etc.  If you practise ‘deep breathing’ when you are relaxed, you should be able to do this when you feel tense or anxious to help you to relax.

Try the following for 2-3 minutes. Practise this every day until you can do it routinely in any stressful situation:

  • Breathe slowly and deeply in through your nose, and out through your mouth in a steady rhythm. Try to make your breath out twice as long as your breath in. To do this you may find it helpful to count slowly “one, two” as you breathe in, and “one, two, three, four” as you breathe out.
  • Mainly use your diaphragm (lower chest muscle) to breathe. Your diaphragm is the big muscle under the lungs. It pulls the lungs downwards which expands the airways to allow air to flow in. When we become anxious we tend to forget to use this muscle and often use the muscles at the top of the chest and our shoulders instead. Each breath is more shallow if you use these upper chest muscles. So, you tend to breathe faster, and feel more breathless and anxious, if you use your upper chest muscles rather than your diaphragm.
  • You can check if you are using your diaphragm by feeling just below your breastbone (sternum) at the top of your abdomen. If you give a little cough, you can feel the diaphragm push out here. If you hold your hand here you should feel it move in and out as you breathe.
  • Try to relax your shoulders and upper chest muscles when you breathe. With each breath out, consciously try to relax those muscles until you are mainly using your diaphragm to breathe.
